Management of valuable natural systems
In order to achieve the environmental objectives and to meet commitments in accordance with the environmental protection directives of the EU, measures are needed for managing and/or restoring and recreating conditions and functions that are important for biological diversity. The size of this call is about 8 million SEK. The final date for applications is 1 October 2013, at 4 pm.
Challenges in efforts to manage valuable natural systems
Sweden has undertaken to maintain its biological diversity and to fulfil the environmental protection directives of the EU on maintaining habitats and species in a favourable conservation status. Meeting this challenge requires, among other approaches, increased knowledge about measures for managing, restoring and recreating habitats and ecosystems that are important for threatened species.
Priorities
We give priority to applications that address one or more of the following points and which are preferably connected to ongoing nature conservation efforts:
- Studies of the effects that different forms of management, restoration and recreation of habitats have on biological diversity
- Studies of how measures in valuable areas relate to the surrounding environment
- Analyses of where in the environment measures should be carried out in order to have the greatest effect
- Studies of green infrastructures and their effects on biological diversity and other environmental objectives, and the conditions for being able to plan
Researchers who are awarded grants are expected to participate in the annual conference of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and to allocate resources for interacting with public agencies and other relevant actors.
